Thank You, Readers!

Those who are six, sixteen, sixty-four, and more have all kinds of great events in store for the National Education Association's nineteenth annual observance of Read Across America. Readers of all ages are encouraged to celebrate with this year's book: Oh the Places You'll Go!

Birney's reading celebration took place in our classrooms on Monday, March 9th. Twenty-two community members, LBUSD personnel, and parents shared their love of reading with Birney's students.

Thank you, readers!

With the 4th of July holiday fast approaching, the Long Beach Fire and Police Departments would like to remind residents, visitors, and staff that all fireworks, including those marked “Safe and Sane,” are ILLEGAL in the City of Long Beach.

The Fire and Police Departments will be out in force the days leading up to and on July 4th to ensure compliance of the Long Beach City Ordinance that bans fireworks. Although both Departments seek voluntary compliance to ensure public safety, this duty often requires strict enforcement of all laws through arrests and citations. Anyone cited or arrested for fireworks violations may be faced with a $1,000 fine, sentenced to jail for six months, or both. The fines and penalties may increase depending on the fireworks’ classification.

Fireworks may be voluntarily disposed at collection bins located at:

  • All fire stations
  • Lifeguard Headquarters 2100 E. Ocean Boulevard, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Any police station

For more information, alerts, advisories, and emergency news please visit www.longbeach.gov/fire, "Like" us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and Instagram, or contact LBFD Community Services at (562) 570-2525.

If you See Something, Say Something! Call Long Beach Police Dispatch at (562) 435-6711 or 9-1-1 if you observe dangerous or illegal activities.

Together, we can enjoy a safe holiday!

State law requires all public schools to create a School Accountability Report Card (SARC). The purpose of the report card is to provide parents and the community with important information about your child's school, which includes:

  • School Description and Mission
  • School Programs and Instructional Materials
  • Opportunities for Parent Involvement
  • Test Results
  • Safety Plan
  • Facilities

We invite you to view the School Accountability Report Card (SARC) for your child's school.  You can find your school's SARC here.
